Nancy's Story

Nancy Anne Pope (Noble), born July 26, 1947, passed away peacefully on February 20, 2024, surrounded by her three children. Adored mother of Wendy (Adrian Corscadden) Pope, Matthew (Jessica) Pope, and Jennifer (Paul Gallupe) Pope. Proud and loving grandmother of Max Gallupe, Zoe Gallupe, Liv Gallupe, Ellie Pope and Pippa Pope. Lovingly remembered by brothers John (Linda) Noble, Roger (Evelyn Tampos) Noble, Dr. Stephen (Lynne) Noble, Duncan (Mary Crnkovich) Noble, sister-in-law Brenda Carter, and many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her brother Mark Noble. Daughter of Rev. Dr. Ronald Noble (Minister Emeritus First Baptist Church, Kingston) and Marian Noble (Smith).

Nancy was a wonderful, intelligent and caring person. A positive force in all that she did. The daughter of a Baptist Minister, Nancy grew up in several towns in Massachusetts, Nova Scotia and New Brunswick. She attended Acadia University and earned a B.A. in '68 and a B.Ed. in '69. While at Acadia she met and married Ted Pope, before starting her teaching career in Lunenburg, Nova Scotia. In 1970 they moved to Montreal where Nancy taught at Beaconsfield High until daughter Wendy was born in 1974. Nancy then taught at Macdonald High School until son Matthew came along in 1978. Daughter Jennifer came next in 1983, and the following year the Pope family moved to Kingston, Ontario.

The '80s and early '90s were full of family trips to Florida, California, Hawaii, New England, Barbados, British Columbia and multiple ski destinations. Nancy’s creativity was endless, and throughout her life she was a prolific knitter, seamstress, and quilter. Her children and grandchildren have countless handcrafted keepsakes which will forever serve as a reminder of a very talented woman. Nancy designed and helped build several homes, including her beloved log cabin on a lake north of Sydenham (“The Pinecone”) in 2003.

Nancy loved the outdoors, and was an avid camper throughout much of her life.  She was a talented woodworker and built all of the cabinets and much of the furniture in several of her homes. During the mid-2000s she was rowing more than 200 days a year in her “Birch Barque” rowboat, and she would have rowed more had the lake not frozen over each winter. Nancy played piano throughout her life, and passed on her love of music to her children and grandchildren.

Since her thirties Nancy was challenged by her MS, but never defeated. She had a voracious appetite for reading, and a lifelong passion for trivia. After 20 years of teaching at Joyceville Elementary School, Nancy retired in 2017, but she never lost the desire to teach.

In 2019 she moved into the Waterford Retirement Home, which provided an incredibly warm and welcoming community that undoubtedly added years to Nancy’s life.  At the Waterford, Nancy was quick to participate in all activities and served as a role model for what life could be like in a retirement home. A special thanks to long-time friends Peter Wagner, Melanie Peairs, Beth MacPherson-Kenney, Jana Chytil and all of Nancy’s wonderful friends at the Waterford.
